Empowering Communities from the Ground Up

1. Child Sponsorship & Education

Education is a right, not a privilege.

The Challenge: For a child in Budondo, succeeding in school is an uphill battle. High dropout rates are common, not due to a lack of ambition, but because of overwhelming family needs. Without support, the cycle of poverty continues.

Our Approach: We directly tackle these barriers through our Child Support program. We connect vulnerable children and orphans with sponsors to provide:

  • Formal Education Support: Covering school fees so children can attend and stay in school.
  • Holistic Development: Recognizing that success requires more than just academics, our program also provides vital mentorship and psychosocial support to help children thrive.
  • Scholastic Materials: Supplying essential items like pens, pencils, and exercise books that families cannot afford.

Why It Matters: By investing in a child’s education, we are doing more than helping one individual. We are empowering a future leader who can contribute to the development of their entire community.

2. Vocational & Skills Training

Supporting Single Mothers, Strengthening Families

The Challenge: Single mothers in Uganda face unique and immense challenges. Often the sole providers for their children, they bear the full weight of securing food, shelter, and school fees with limited opportunities for stable income.

Our Approach: The Kaliba Foundation’s household support focuses on empowering single mothers through crafting programs. This initiative provides:

  • Vocational Training: We offer valuable skills like sewing, weaving, and jewelry making, giving mothers a tangible path to earning a sustainable income.
  • Economic Independence: By selling their crafts, these women can meet their families’ basic needs, reduce dependence on others, and gain control over their lives.
  • Entrepreneurial Skills: Our training extends to business management, marketing, and financial literacy, equipping mothers to run their own small businesses effectively.
  • A Support Network: Crafting groups foster a powerful sense of community, reducing isolation and creating a space where mothers can share experiences and support one another.

The Impact: Empowering a mother economically has a ripple effect, improving her children’s health and well-being, increasing their access to education, and building stronger, more resilient families.

3. Youth & Sports

Kaliba Soccer Club: More Than a Game

The Opportunity: In Uganda, football is more than a sport—it’s a source of national pride and a powerful tool for community engagement.

Our Program: The Kaliba Foundation runs the “Kaliba Soccer Club,” a community football team competing in the nationally recognized Division IV league. With strong support in the Budondo community, our club is a source of entertainment and pride, but its value runs much deeper. The club provides:

  • Positive Engagement: It serves as a social hub that brings people together and gives youth a constructive and healthy outlet
  • Personal Development: Players learn invaluable skills in teamwork, discipline, and leadership that will serve them for life.
  • Economic Value: The club creates local jobs for coaches and staff and stimulates the local economy by attracting fans to local shops and businesses on game days.

Our Goal: We aim for the club to one day play in Uganda’s professional Big or Super League, creating even greater opportunities for our youth and community.

Future Projects: A Food Center & Library

To create holistic and lasting change, we know we must address fundamental community needs. The Kaliba Foundation is actively working to establish two transformative new facilities in Budondo.

4. Community Library

The Need: Children in Budondo attend schools that have no libraries, putting them at a severe disadvantage. The entire community lacks free access to information and learning resources.

Our Vision: We aim to establish a vibrant community library that will serve as a vital hub for all. It will offer:

  • Free access to books, learning materials, and computers with internet
  • Educational programs like literacy classes and job-skills workshops
  • A safe, quiet space for students to study and researchers to work.
  • A place to preserve and celebrate local history and culture.

5. Community Food Center

The Need: Many families in Budondo struggle with food insecurity, unable to afford basic necessities for their children.

Our Vision: We propose a community food center that does more than just distribute food;

  • It will be a place of dignity and respect, providing access to nutritious food and promoting healthy eating habits
  • The center will work with local farmers, promote sustainable practices, and offer programs that address the root causes of poverty.
