Jinja’s Push for Community Food Security

JINJA, UGANDA – In Budondo Sub-county, Jinja, food insecurity is a pervasive issue, deeply intertwined with the broader challenges of poverty and limited access to resources. While residents often depend on small-scale agriculture, widespread poverty means that even a good harvest doesn’t guarantee consistent access to nutritious food. Recent data underscores the critical need for robust, community-led solutions to ensure basic sustenance.

The Kaliba Foundation’s proposal for a community food center aims to address this critical gap not just by providing food, but by fostering long-term food security and community well-being. This ambitious project seeks to establish a central hub where nutritious provisions are accessible with dignity and respect. Critically, it emphasizes partnerships with local farmers to create sustainable food systems, and integrates skill-building and community participation.
