A Glimpse into Jinja’s Struggle

JINJA, UGANDA – In the bustling yet challenging landscape of Jinja, Uganda, a stark reality confronts thousands: extreme poverty. In areas like Budondo Sub-county, where families often consist of six or more children, securing basic necessities—shelter, healthcare, and consistent meals—remains a daily battle.

Recent reports highlight persistent issues, including significant unspent government funds intended for vital services, leaving communities to grapple with crumbling roads and inadequate public services. It’s a systemic struggle that keeps countless children out of school, leaving them vulnerable and without a clear path forward.

Amidst these formidable odds, the Kaliba Foundation stands as a critical intervention. Operating in vulnerable parishes such as Buwagi, Ivunamba, Namizi, and Nawangoma, the foundation isn’t merely offering aid; it’s meticulously working to dismantle the cycle of poverty through targeted educational programs and essential skills training for women and youth. Their efforts are a testament to the power of direct, community-level action where broader systemic solutions have faltered.

“With five kids , the family entirely depends on me for survival- what I do to earn is, wash people’s clothes, dig for others and selling banana. It’s a tough lifestyle but I am glad I find strength to get through each day with the hope provided by Kaliba Foundation.”
